Guidelines for drivers Stoomgroep Turnhout vzw

  1. Locomotives, wagons and accessories are unloaded at the designated place of one of the special tracks. The main railway track at unloading or loading must be always free. After unloading and / or loading the cars must immediately go to a parking outside the park enclosure.

  2. The train cars are shunted by a person appointed to a guard rail. The locomotives will be placed on the turntable.

Steam locomotives must have a valid qualification certificate of boiler inspection as issued by the "Alliance of Steam Groups". (we are Steam Group member), Dutch Stoomwezen, an inspection committee recognized by the Belgian State, Deutsche Dampfbahn Club, the Commission Française Sécurité de Travail and the British Steam Certificate, provided that evidence of validity have not exceeded.

In the absence of evidence of qualification the steam engine may be brought under pressure after a preliminary inspection by the technical management of the association. This inspection includes: Inspection of pipes and boiler 'on demand', proofs of the boiler with water to 1 ½ times the working pressure, finding that the steam rig is equipped with two safety valves which open at normal operating pressure + 10% and the locomotive equipped of a locomotive or other brake. A certificate of "Steam Alliance of Groups"  can be delivered by Stoomgroep.

All locomotives and / or tenders, at least bear a sufficient brake.

  3. Preparing the engine and the pressurization should be made to the turntable.

  4. Before entering the main track the driver shall notify the first station manager. Only after his admission and based on his instructions, the railway may be entered. The engineer will make a test drive on the track and then will eventually be able to link vehicles within the station or at the designated place.

  5. Driving with passengers has priority to driving without passengers. Driving without passengers is allowed if the schedule can allow it. This is decided by the station manager.

Driving on the track is in compliance with the utmost caution regarding passengers. Notice the passenger behind you! Higher speeds than 15 km per hour are not allowed. At level crossings in the station and in hazardous locations, the maximum speed is 5 km per hour. For trains without car-brakes, the maximum speed should be reduced by 30%, excluding the minimum speed of 5 km / h.

Driving should be done in accordance to the instructions of the station controller and / or signal indications along the track. The minimum distance between two trains is at least 30 meters.

  1. The drawing of the grid may only be made above grid pit. When in emergency the roster is drawn at a different location the driver will be responsible for the removal of ash and slag.

  2. Competent drivers:

All persons over 16 years and approved by the board of the association or the owner of the engine.

In the case of minors, they should be monitored by a responsible adult driver, but this can only happen after the main responsible considers it OK.

Driving with passengers only by authorized drivers, at least 16 years old.

  1. Drivers must invariably follow up to the light signals along the track. main rules for the signal are the following:

  • RED : stop before the signal

  • GREEN : passing allowed

  • DOUBLE YELLOW : allowed to pass, next signal is a stop signal

    • The yellow triangles (point up) with black figures indicate a reduction in speed in km/h.

    • The green triangles (point up) with yellow numbers indicate the maximum Speed Limit km/h

    • The blue sign with white letters SF (sifler - fluit) indicates where the whistle should be used

    • The white rectangle sign with black numbers indicates the number of the signal.

    • The signal at the main entrance to the station also indicates the number of the incoming track.
